Lmao. “Splendor” is certainly a word that only a conservative-owned paper like WSJ would use to describe the suburbs.

yeah, been to both the US and Europe. I know where I’d prefer to be.

That’s noted in the article as well though

When Ron Visser and his American wife were weighing where to settle down—the U.S. or the Netherlands—they calculated that though Visser made about $40,000 less in the Netherlands than his wife did in the U.S., the difference in salaries was erased by an equivalent gap in standard of living.

As a European who has visited US suburbs, “splendor” is certainly not a word I’d use for them.

One 2024 study showed that American portion sizes are 42% larger than those in France

Hilarious article, but not something you should be proud of.

Vast and bountiful

Is a wild way to completely miss the tone that was almost certainly attached to a Dutch guy saying

Everything is three times the size

Which I’m guessing is kinda the slightly bemused bewilderment tone you get when remarking on something ridiculous

Vast and bountiful? What bounty are you seeing? Wal-Mart?

They’re dutch, so I’m guessing just land

Carbrain recognise carbrain.

Of course a dude from Europe’s very own protestant hellscape is impressed by the Protestant Hellscape Prime that is the US
